City Hydrant Flushing

 

Every year, Marshalltown Water Works flushes the hydrants in the entire city.  The purpose of the program is to keep the water mains clean and to check all fire hydrants for proper operation.  Crews will typically start on the north side of town and work their way to the south side of town.  The yearly flushing program typically takes two to three weeks.

During the time crews are flushing hydrants in your area, residents may notice lower than normal pressure and/or temporary discoloration of their water.  If you notice any discoloration, running the cold water for about five minutes should remove the discolored water from your pipes.  If you notice lasting problems, please call our office at 641-753-7913.
